Some time back, in the year 2592, the ozone layer finally disappeared completely, leaving earth defenseless. The suns rays were no longer filtered and negotiated. All of the heat and sun protection humans had developed over the years were rendered useless, forcing them underground to the cooler regions of their planet. No longer could they be above ground all day, lest they burn and dehydrate. Water became difficult to find, drying up and disappearing. Most people moved off to the poles, where water was plenty and heat less intense. They did not last long. Eventually billions turned to thousands, then hundreds. Homo sapiens were not likely to survive this turn of events. And they didn’t. The weaker species perished, died out completely. The stronger lived.
In a flourishing world of fire, new species developed.
Not many different mammals were still around when the earth had completed its transformation, but the few kinds remaining multiplied in staggering numbers, evolving and changing with their environment. Furs got thinner and skins became thicker to better shun the light, and they thinned and became smaller, needing less food and water to sustain them.
Contrary to the transformation of this category were the reptiles. Some that used to be as small as sun lizards became the size of small dogs while others that had already been considered large in the past grew to enormous proportions. Creatures that had been considered myth and legend became reality. Primarily dragons. They developed from the larger lizards, soon becoming the primary predators.
By the time that evolution had slowed to a halt and the new earth settled into a new way of life, it was the year 513015. Over a hundered thousand years had passed since the beginning of one of the biggest changes in the planets history.
Unexpectedly, the dragons began to completely fulfill their fabled history. Their intelligence levels rocketed, and they created language, script, myth of their own. New gods and monsters birthed of their stories. Their god became Pyral, goddess of heat, fire, the sun itself. Their devil was Hycroun, goddess of cold, water, the moon. As any race before them, there were many different gods. Mastering the new elements and controlling them as they would. Gyulim, god of the land; Kordymi, goddess of Pyral’s creatures; them…and many others.
And so now, in the year 513517, Pyrallis is complete.
